A Guide to Acquiring the Second Generation ID Card
I. Applying for the second generation ID card
Any resident in Guangzhou city should apply for the second generation ID card from the domicile public security organ within three months after his or her 16th birthday, while any resident under 16 cannot get his or her ID card unless his or her guardian applies for it on his or her behalf.
Being successful in going through applying formalities, any resident should take his or her household register, receipt of the second-generation ID card digital photos and two recent certificate photos to domicile police substation, district public security subbureau or certificate issuing center of county-level city public security bureau.
RMB 20 yuan is needed to pay for the cost of the production of the second-generation ID card, according to the verification by the Finance Ministry.
II. Replacing first generation ID card with the second generation ID card
Any resident in Guangzhou city should change the first generation ID card for the second generation ID card if his or her ID card is expired or seriously damaged and hardly identifiable, or his or her name has been altered. As for those who hold valid first-generation ID cards they should obtain the second generation ones in turn by the arrangement of public security organ.
Being successful in going through applying formalities, any resident should take his or her household register, receipt of the second-generation ID card digital photos and two recent certificate photos to domicile police substation, district public security subbureau or certificate issuing center of county-level city public security bureau. (Those whose first generation ID cards are approaching expiration must go through formalities within two months before their ID cards expire.)
RMB 40 yuan is needed to pay for the cost of the production when the applicant replaces the damaged ID card with the new one and RMB 20 yuan for other reasons, according to the verification by the Finance Ministry.
III. Re-issuing the lost ID card
Any resident whose ID card is lost should report to his or her domicile public security organ and fill in REGISTER OF LOST ID CARDS. Being successful in going through applying formalities, he or she also should take his or her household register, receipt of the second generation ID card digital photos and two recent certificate photos to domicile police substation, district public security subbureau or certificate issuing center of county-level city public security bureau. Once the lost ID card is found, he or she must return it to public security organ after receiving the new ID card.
RMB 40 yuan is needed to pay for the cost of production due to losing the second-generation ID card, while RMB 20 yuan is needed due to losing the first-generation ID card.
IV. Receiving the second-generation ID card
Having gone through formalities of applying, replacing and making up, the resident can take his or her residence booklet, receipt of payment for the second generation ID card and EVIDENCE OF RECEIVING ID CARD to receive his or her second-generation ID card from domicile police substation, district public security bureau or certificate issuing center of county-level city public security bureau within 60 days after he or she submits REGISTER OF APPLYING FOR ID CARD. (The old ID card must return)
